Microsoft Updates Win11 To Support More CPU
Jul 12, 2023
At the end of May this year, Microsoft released the third feature update of Windows 11 22H2, codenamed Moment 3, version 22621.1778. The update is mainly aimed at users who meet the requirements of the system and provides some new features and improvements. At the same time, Microsoft has quietly updated the list of processors supported by Windows 11, including new products from Intel, AMD and Qualcomm.
In June 2021, Microsoft officially announced the launch of a new operating system, Windows 11. Previously, after collecting more feedback from a large number of testers, Microsoft appropriately relaxed the restrictions on Win11 system requirements, and for this reason, they also released a special program called PC Health check for users to use in the process of preparing for the upgrade, which also shows that Win11 still has some special aspects of hardware requirements that we need to pay attention to.
If you want to upgrade your system to Win 11, you need to meet eight minimum hardware configurations, including CPU, memory, storage, system firmware, video cards, TPM, monitors, and Internet connections:
CPU: a 64-bit processor (dual-core or multicore) or system-on-chip (SoC) with a frequency of 1GHz or above is required.
-Intel:8 generation core or above (some high-end 7-generation cores also support it).
-AMD:Ryzen2 generation or above.
-Qualcomm:Snapdragon 7c and above.
Memory: 4GB or above.
Storage: 64GB or above.
System firmware: UEFI, secure boot.
Video card: compatible with DirectX 12 or later, and compatible with WDDM 2.0 drivers.
TPM:TPM version 2.0.
Display: high definition (720p) display, 9-inch or larger screen, 8 bits per color channel.
Internet connection: an Internet connection is required to perform updates, downloads, and use certain functions, such as Windows 11 Home Edition, which requires an Internet connection and a Microsoft account to complete device configuration during initial installation.
The last time Microsoft updated the list of supported processors was in October last year, when the Windows 11 21H2 feature update was introduced. Although the system requirements for Windows 11 have not changed much from 21H2 to 22H2, it is impossible to expect hardware that is not currently supported to pop up on the support list.
Among the new Intel processors is 6GHz's Core i9-13900KS. Other Intel Raptor Lake mobile processors, such as i5-1334U, 1335U, 1335UE, 13500HS, etc., have also been added.
AMD is even more interesting, with chips with 3D V-cache technology added, including 5800X3D based on AM4 platform and 7950X3D, 7900X3D and 7800X3D based on AM5 platform. Other AM4 chips include the sharp dragon 3 4100, the sharp dragon 5 4500, 5500 and 5600. For AM5 platforms, there are non-X versions of Ruilong 7 7700 and Ruilong 5 7600. On the mobile side, there are Ruilong 55625U and 5625C (Chromebook version), Ruilong 35425U and so on. Many AMD 7000U series processors have also been added, some of which are 7530U, 7440U, and so on.
Finally, there are Qualcomm processors, which add Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 and Microsoft SQ3.
