Are fanless mini PCs good?

A fanless mini computer, as the name suggests, is a small computer without a fan. It uses structural design and heat dissipation fins to transfer the heat from the internal heating components (CPU and silicon wafers) to the computer casing. Due to the good thermal conductivity of aluminum alloy, fanless computers usually use aluminum alloy as the casing, and the heat generated will make the entire computer very hot. A regular computer usually comes with a small fan, while a high power consumption (gaming console) also comes with 2-5 fans. This is the process of taking away the heat generated inside the computer through external air circulation, also known as active cooling.

Compared to regular computers, fanless computers have the following advantages:

1. Small size. Because the fanless design saves a certain amount of space and does not require reserved space for air circulation, the entire chassis will appear much smaller.

2. Silent operation. When the fan rotates, it will make a sound, and without a fan design, there will be no sound from the fan.

3. More reliable. Fans have a certain lifespan and will break down after a period of use, while hosts that dissipate heat through heat sinks have a longer lifespan and are also easy to replace.

4. Sustainable operation. Computers without fans support running 24/7 for 365 days, while those with fans must rest for a period of time to avoid damage.

5. Dust and vibration resistance. Fanless computers belong to the industrial level and usually use industrial control motherboards. The heat dissipation board is directly attached to the casing and adopts a fully enclosed design, so the entire computer will be particularly sturdy, thus having the performance of shock resistance, vibration resistance, and dust prevention.
