Why industrial computers burn when they are running

Aug 23, 2023

Many customers will conduct system testing on industrial computers after receiving them, such as running programs, adjusting the CPU to maximum, and adjusting the memory to maximum. They will find that the casing of the computer is very hot. What is the reason for the high heat generated by the industrial computer?

1

Firstly, we start with the structure. Our industrial computer is made of an all aluminum alloy structure, completely sealed, and there is no fan inside for heat dissipation. Therefore, there is usually some heat on the outside of the industrial computer casing. Prove that CPUs or other electronic materials can transmit heat outside the body during operation, thereby protecting the normal operation of industrial computers. In addition, the following points may cause excessive heat generation in industrial control computers, such as:

1、 High heat generation of high-performance processors

Currently, many industrial computers with good airtightness use low-power processors, but for certain special customer applications, these processors use high-end processors, such as Intel Core i5 or i7 processors, which consume more power and generate a large amount of heat. If advanced CPUs are used, the heat generation will be higher. We have considered the heat dissipation performance before research and development, and will also conduct corresponding temperature tests before leaving the factory, so you don't need to worry.

2、 In a sealed working environment

Due to the completely sealed structure inside the embedded computer, heat will be dissipated into the body during operation. However, if an mini computer is installed in a fully sealed machine environment without any external air circulation, it will cause the ambient temperature to continue to rise. This will affect the normal operation of industrial computers. We recommend that customers ensure a certain airflow when installing computers. For example, it is best to add a small fan when installing in a cabinet.

Overall, as long as the heat generated by our rugged computer products can be dissipated to the outside of the body normally and there is a certain amount of air flow in the environment, there is no need to worry too much if the industrial computer casing is very hot.
